Del Rey Agates began as a childhood passion— rooted in the land, the stones, and the people who have worked them for generations.

Based in northern Mexico, we specialize in the sourcing, cutting, and distribution of natural and semi-precious stones, working directly from known and lesser-known deposits throughout the region. Many of the localities we explore have been known by old-school rockhounds since the 1970s, passed down through stories, shared digs, and decades of hands-on experience in the field..

While Del Rey Agates officially took shape in the early 2010s, the passion behind it goes back much further. Alberto Ray, founder, has been collecting agates since childhood. After returning to his hometown in Mexico, he began collaborating with long-time local miners and claim holders, rediscovering forgotten sites and opening new possibilities for responsible, small-scale mineral work. What started as exploration quickly grew into something bigger —  a way to create value locally while sharing the region’s natural beauty with collectors, artists, and designers around the world.

Today, we continue to work mines and claims from time to time, always with the understanding that there is still so much left to explore. Every stone tells a story, and no two pieces are ever the same.

Our collection includes a wide range of materials such as agate from world-renowned deposits, jaspers, geodes, thundereggs, bird’s-eye rhyolite, vein agate, chrysocolla, opals, garnets, and other fine minerals. Some pieces remain in their raw, natural state, while others are carefully cut, shaped, and polished to highlight the character inside each stone.

The geological Treasures of northern Mexico

Northern Mexico is home to some of the world’s most celebrated agate and mineral deposits. Names like Laguna, Coyamito, Ojo Laguna, and Moctezuma have become legendary among collectors for their extraordinary colors, fine banding, and remarkable formations, while historic mineral districts such as Santa Eulalia and San Pedro Corralitos are known for producing exceptional mineral specimens from the region’s rich geological history.

Formed over millions of years within ancient volcanic and mineralizing environments, these deposits reveal the powerful geological forces that shaped the landscapes of Northern Mexico.
