All pieces in this collection originate from Mexico’s world-famous agate deposits. Each stone has been carefully selected and expertly polished to showcase the vivid colors, intricate banding, and distinctive character that define fine Mexican agates.
A thunderegg is a rounded, nodule-like rock formation found primarily in volcanic regions. These hollow or partially hollow stones are typically composed of agate, chalcedony, or other cryptocrystalline quartz varieties. When cut and polished, thundereggs reveal beautiful banded patterns and crystalline interiors that make them prized by collectors and lapidaries. The name comes from Native American folklore, which attributed their formation to thunderstorms. Thundereggs are especially abundant in Oregon and other areas with ancient volcanic activity, and they range in size from small pebbles to specimens weighing several pounds.
